Would you like to get involved in a draft type fantasy football money league - where no one can have the same players?

If the answer is yes, then please read on, as I have just such a league drafting on the eve of the new Premier League season, that being Thursday, 20th August 2026 at 8pm (UK time). I have picked a live draft date and time for this league as close to the season as possible to give people the most amount of time to assess the news on player transfers.

Each entrant that signs up can vote for the scoring settings we will use - either Classic or Head-to-Head (as we had in this league last season). One team one vote - which you will cast by voting in a poll I create on the TFP forum thread for this game. Whichever option the majority are in favour of come 12 noon (UK time) on Thursday, 20th August - this leagues draft day - will be which setting we go with. If by some chance, it’s a tie I will flip a coin - can’t really say fairer than that.

The entry fee will be the same as last season - £25 per team. I will confirm prizes after the live draft as soon as everyone has paid up. To avoid chasing people and because post draft I can’t delete people from the draft league I am only sending an invite to people to actually get into the league once payment has been made. I have to wait until the live draft to know exactly how many teams we have (unless I get a full quota of 16 players prior to then in which case I can then work out the prizes before the draft itself - which would be better. All entry fees will be paid back out as prizes 100%).

Last season we had prizes for 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, Highest Weeks Score and Highest Cumulative Fantasy Points Team Score.

I am using Fantasy Premier Leagues draft game for this money league.

League details:

You may have noticed from the above league info I have activated player trading in this league where it goes to Managers to veto. You must be on the ball with this because FPL Draft now defaults to if a manager does not veto or approve a trade before the deadline approval is assumed. This means most trades will now go through as it takes 50% of the league to veto a trade to stop it. SO, YOU MUST BE QUICK TO VETO IF A TRADE SEEMS IMBALANCED, OR IT WILL JUST GO THROUGH AT THE DEADLINE (IF LESS THAN HALF THE LEAGUE HAS NOT VETOED IT).

The FPL Draft client only allows trades to be proposed in a tiny window between Gameweeks and a trade can only be accepted up to the waiver deadline - sometimes this was a window as short as only 24hrs - any unaccepted trades at the waiver deadline would automatically get cancelled. I think this meant often trades got cancelled before the team they were proposed to even saw them. It’s a really bad game floor in my opinion that FPL has not addressed - that being not having the ability to propose trades at any time and having them complete after a voting period or at the next deadline if in the middle of a Gameweek.

I have stuck with the standard default of 90 seconds per pick - I know some find this to long but equally others don’t so decided to keep to the default setting (the system allows for me to set it at 30 through to 120 seconds).

I have chosen an eve of season draft this year (same as last season) as I wish to draft as close to the seasons start as possible and think always doing this league exactly 24hrs before first game kicks-off will become the standard for this league and people can now know this going forward before I even set the league up, when the draft will actually be (24hrs before first game).

Overseas players are most welcome to join this league too.

As league organiser I have to be involved in the league to set it up and I also decided last season that from then on the previous seasons Champion automatically gets offered a slot (to defend their title). However, to avoid me chasing people for payment or chasing up previous players to see if they want to play again - plus to mix league up a bit season to season - there is no automatic right of return except for the previous seasons champion. Quite simply each year I will set up the league then send this info out by e-mail to those in my ‘All Games’ & ‘Soccer (Football) fans’ fantasy game mailing lists plus post it on TFP forum - then the first 14 people to commit by replying to me by e-mail or PM from TFP forum (as PM’s are auto e-mailed to me from TFP) will be in - as long as they follow through with paying the entry fee once I reply to confirm they were one of the first 14 to apply!

I will send a direct invite to the league when a person pays the entry fee - that way I guarantee it’s first come first served, nor do I then have to chase anyone for payment and can confirm the prizes sooner rather than later.

Worst live FPL draft I’ve ever done - I hate my team.

No mocks, no research and no plan = this is the result - spent to much time trying to fill the league and no time on planning a strategy. Roll on next season!

I wish FPL would listen to players and make the game more fun.

3 things I think would make the game so much better if they offered options for league chairman to select.

These are settings I would like to see offered - just like you can select Head to Head or Classic scoring etc.

1) Third Round Reversal:

Third Round Reversal (3RR) is a fantasy football draft format that changes the snake draft order beginning in Round 3 to reduce the advantage of having an early first-round pick. Using Third Round Reversal, especially in bigger leagues, creates a fairer and more balanced draft experience.

2) Choice of Waiver Setting.

Allow the Chairman of private leagues to choose their waiver wire settings. I have played in fantasy draft NFL leagues for over 2 decades and this is standard. You usually have the choice of three options - why can’t FPL Draft offer the same options:

Rolling or Continuous Waivers

Rolling waivers would mean after the draft the waiver order would be the reverse of the draft order. The waiver order is used throughout the season, where managers drop to the bottom of the waiver priority every time they successfully make a waiver claim. Do not make a claim and you do not drop regardless of how well or bad your doing in the season. So you can be rewarded as if you wait long enough you could get to the top of the waiver priority guaranteeing you get who you put in for.

WAB Waivers

WAB stands for Waiver Acquisition Budget and each manager has a set budget chosen by the Leagues Chairman (I would advocate 200 points but why not let the chairman set it before draft at anything from 100 - 999) to spend on free agent players during each weeks waiver wire period throughout the season. Instead of just submitting a waiver claim for a player, with WAB waivers, you’ll need to specify how much of your budget you’re willing to bid.

No other managers in your league will know what your bids are and vice versa. For example, after a huge Gameweek 1 performance by an undrafted player, you could have bid 49 WAB points out of your 200 budget for the season. If two other managers also had bids of 51 WAB points and 31 WAB points, the manager who bid 51 WAB points would add that player to their squad, and their budget for the remainder of the season would fall from 200 WAB down to 149 WAB. The losing bidders do not lose any of their WAB.

Waiver priority matters much less with WAB waivers, since priority only affects WAB waivers if you and another manager happen to place the exact same bid on the exact same player.

Note: WAB waivers are generally recommended for more advanced fantasy enthusiasts with multiple seasons under their belt.

Reverse Standings

The current FPL Draft setting. Here the waiver order resets each week in reverse standings order. So, the last-place team would have highest priority, while the first-place team would have last waiver priority. Whether or not you successfully claim a player that week will have no effect on the next week’s priority order. So each Gameweek the lowest placed team receives the first waiver choice. Before the season starts, the waiver order is the reverse of the draft order. After a successful waiver request, that team moves to the end of the waiver queue for that Gameweek.

3) Choice of Draft Timing Options

I would very much like FPL to offer the option of slower drafts. Allow the league chairman to select how long the time per pick is from say:

That way we could draft without time pressure. If it is getting too close to the season allow the Chairman to be able to go in and reduce the time per pick. This allows the chairman to choose what kind of draft he want from a live quick draft through to a long slow draft with zero time pressure. You can check in a couple times a day to see who’s pick it’s on. Jump in and out.

One caveat = would be good to bring back a message board - at least in the draft room itself - so you can communicate with other managers. Maybe turn notifications on and have the system send a message to inform them their on the clock.

Who knows maybe one day a dev from FPL Draft might find their way here and can put forward these ideas. I myself really would like to see these things implemented.
