SB 50 @ The Hipp

Interesting to hear your thoughts on it Rick and yes, I’m feeling much better thank you :grinning:

I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be able to show it in HD - I actually would have thought that to be the standard these days. Maybe they haven’t upgraded their main screen / projector and they were limited to show it in SD.

I can’t wait to meet up with you all again soon, whether it being the NFL Draft or some other big event, I don’t care … as long as we have an excuse to get together.

Cheers
Anders

Your a good egg Superstar, I can tell you your presence was missed at both the Wildcard Saturday & SB events.

Actually Andy I dont appear to have the ability to move this post without it looking like it was written by me. Up to you fella if you want to move it to the Super Bowl Host Venues (UK) thread.

Rgds

Just have Andy (aka Rick_Spangle) copy it and re-post it on other thread - makes sense on either thread and double the chance of people seeing/reading it so all good imo.

I really enjoyed the Hippodrome, although I was lucky to get a great seat near the front. Really didn’t see the point of the comedians when Sky TV and BBC were showing live build up to the big game. We had to sit and listen when all we wanted to do was talk about Superbowl. That was a big negative for me.

I thought the sound was really poor until I watched the re-run of the half time show at home when I realised the sound was terrible (worst half-time show in a long time).

I would go back unless Superbash is resurrected, I can’t imagine anything competing against the 02 when its in full flow of NFL fans. The only way they can make sure its full of keen fans is to charge or give priority to IS Season Ticket holders (I’m not a season ticket holder but recognise that hard-core fans should be given this concession as a thank-you for loyal support). Making fans enter competitions, beg & borrow for tickets is crazy

Thanks Dean, would be great in other thread if you dont mind fella

Relevant Extracts taken from my own post at NFLUK about S/B Sunday events attended…

Hippodrome Casino - £20 Cabaret Ticket

My first choice had always been Super Bash but once ‘Super Bash’ as we knew it from past years was confirmed as not taking place this year took up the offer of a ticket from one of my live pub draft fellow GM’s and now fellow NFL fan friend (username CitrusPlayer on here).

I had a £20 theatre ticket and have to say I was none to impressed - in the cabaret area they had stand up comics until game time but I wanted / would of preferred the build up on TV / Sky Sports tbh. Also the seating was awkward and uncomfy - though at least I was pretty central being the furthest to the centre of our group of 9 - I didn’t plan this just when we arrived I was kind of first and counted 9 seats along and well there was a stranger on the next seat anyway already in situ. The seats if you was in a booth looked really comfy - as do the seats sown in the pictures on the other thread from other NFL nights at the Hipp (which I have never experienced). As CP says the way they laid the seating out was to pack as many peeps in as possible and still be able to see TV’s / screen even if for many it was an awkward view. The table service was good though - but kinda nuts not having any standard flavour BBQ wings - they was on the menu but waitress said they was all out when we tried to order - on S/B Sunday are you kidding me and hours before game has even started… they only had HOT wings which was chilli hot and I found almost inedible. Also I thought they would have a 24hr bar but after me and my mates went to roof post game they stopped serving at like 5am and no drafts available at the roof bar. Despite late licenses and relaxed drinking laws it still does my head in that in the most central of places in the capital city of England on a weekend night you still can’t easily drink and have a good time 24/7!

In the Hippodromes theatre I only had 2 jugs of Coors - think that’s meant to be 4 pints but sometimes I doubt that really is 4 pints as seems smaller to me - any way that came to £31 with table service so I guess about standard for central London but when you add on the £20 to get in not cheap at all and defo not Super Bash - my least enjoyable (company excluded) Super Bowl party in over a decade! On the plus side I would say atmosphere was good - may have had more to do with being with friends I like but in general would say everyone was friendly and I made a new friend - person who was on my right was not known to me - was part of the next group along.

All in all hope Super Bash as I know it comes back next year but if not will try somewhere else. One thing I do ask though to help with planning, booking travel and organising a group event can NFLUK let us know for sure earlier one way or the other if they are not doing their own Super Bash event - ideally just after the regular season has ended would be preferred.

Good point regarding letting fans know, it was ridiculous waiting to find out "will they won’t they"
some of us need to plan Super Bowl as far in advance as possible to organise travel and accommodation.
